Microsoft Changes Policy Over Russian Crackdown - NYTimes.com

This is a brilliant move: anyone outside of the USA that uses Microsoft's software for non-profit purposes automatically has a blanket license. This means that an overzealous government can't arrest dissidents (or whatever) using a piracy crackdown as an excuse. With this simple move Microsoft turns an opportunity loss (the revenue they aren't making from all of those pirated copies) into a huge PR win.
