The Washington Post, the nation’s finest newspaper behind only the New York Times, has published 110 stories on the “White House party crashers” taking up 2,200 column inches and involving 30 reporters

Then they go bitching about FOX and their conservative bias. The WP and CNN on the other hand seem to be more interested in news as entertainment than into keeping us informed of what is going on out there.

He’s Upset About the iPhone 4 Antenna (by MG Siegler)

Oh boy, now even Hitler is upset about the iPhone 4 antenna issue.

If only Béla Lugosi had lived to be 127, he’d be the biggest star in the world right now.

Apple has released official advice for iPhone 4 owners to overcome the problem of the device losing signal when held by the lower left corner. Steve Jobs responded to a query about the problem from one owner by saying: “Just avoid holding it in that way.

BBC News - Apple issues advice to avoid iPhone flaw

This is really funny because it is a very old tech meme that goes back to at least World War II. We usually call it “don’t do that.”

It goes like this:

User: when I hold escape while right clicking between noon and 12:15 on a Tuesday, the window minimizes.

Programmer: don’t do that then.

The iPhone 4 version:

User: If I hold the iPhone like *this* I lose all of my signal bars.

Steve Jobs: Just avoid holding it that way.

iPhone 4 Reception Issue with Holding the Phone - Without Wifi Turned On (via FameFoundry)

I am not going to say that this is funny, what is funny is that not one hour ago I warned my kid brother (his wife was picking up their two iPhone 4s while we were talking) that today was iPhone 4 suffering day.

In papers submitted to a US federal court, the Mexican government argues that the law is unconstitutional and would damage bilateral relations.

BBC News - Mexico joins Arizona immigration lawsuit

Regardless of the issue argued, how can country A sue country B because country B has a locality with a law that violates the constitution of country B?

Let’s try this again: is it OK for the USA to go to Mexico and sue the state of Sonora because Sonora has a law that violates Mexico’s constitution? Is it any of our business?

Notice we are not talking about Mexico suing the USA because the USA is violating some kind of UN charter or some international treaty. No, they are trying to sue a state of the USA because they see it as violating USA law.

It makes my head spin.

Extra bonus points due to:

1. This was sent to me by a preacher’s wife.

2. “After about 75 minutes I had seen enough…”

3. I have 58,511 emails stored into my Gmail. There are exactly TWO emails returned by searching for “homosexual duck necrophilia.” One is the preacher’s wife email, the second is my w00t reply to her.

More than 99% of my wealth will go to philanthropy during my lifetime or at death.

Warren Buffett pledge as part of the $600 billion challenge - Jun. 16, 2010

He is giving away 99% of his fortune (over $50 billion, yes, with a “b”), 4% per year until his death, then everything to be settled within 10 years of his estate settlement. He is also giving away all of this money without locking it into endowments, which means the full principal can be used, instead of the interest earnings.

And you can bet on this: some asshole is still going to find an excuse to criticize this man.

If only the sport had bet its future on an attractive and moderately talented woman becoming the next dominant racer. That surely would have saved them.

A New York Times profile last week described Courtney Munna, a 26-year-old graduate of New York University with nearly $100,000 in student loan debt — debt that her degree in Religious and Women’s Studies did not equip her to repay. Payments on the debt are about $700 per month, equivalent to a respectable house payment, and a major bite on her monthly income of $2,300 as a photographer’s assistant earning an hourly wage.

Glenn Reynolds: Higher education’s bubble is about to burst | Washington Examiner

There should be some kind of open disclosure whenever anyone is trying to get education loans. The sad thing is that if you were to show them a simple summary sheet that says “this is what you are paying for this semester, and this is how much you will end up paying if you make the monthly payments” they still would not be able to grasp that on graduation somebody with a bachelors degree in basket weaving studies may have some trouble scoring a job that will bear the brunt of a $100,000 loan amortized over 30 years.

Purcell - March / Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary (Funeral Sentences) Z. 860 (via protestant7)

This one is a weird #earworm that was discussing with Alex Esoterica the other day. I always assumed that this piece was a custom arrangement for A Clockwork Orange, and idiot that I am I never spent the extra two seconds needed to realized, well, duh, with the classical music being a theme throughout the movie, maybe that piece is actually a rearranged classic? Well, it is! It was composed by Henry Purcell for the funeral, and rearranged by Wendy Carlos for Stanley Kubrick’s movie.
